How We Pick

At The Counter Lab, we pick kitchen appliances by specs and real prices, one product category at a time. This page explains how we choose, score, and update our picks.

What we look at

We use official manufacturer specs, product manuals, retailer listings, and tracked prices. We compare the details that matter for daily use, such as capacity, dimensions, power, settings, included accessories, cleaning, and warranty.

No hands-on testing, unless we say so

We do not claim hands-on testing unless a page clearly states that we tested that exact product. Most picks are spec-based comparisons. When hands-on experience matters, we say what is still unknown instead of guessing.

How scoring works

Each category has its own criteria. An air fryer is judged differently from a blender or a rice cooker. Within a category, we weigh the specs and price for each segment — for example, small households, families, or buyers who need a specific feature — and we explain the trade-offs.

Prices and updates

Prices change. We track retailer prices and update picks when models, specs, or prices change in a way that affects the recommendation. Older prices on a page may no longer match the retailer at checkout.

Corrections

If we get a spec, price, or model detail wrong, we correct the page and note important changes. See our Contact page to report an error. See our Affiliate Disclosure for how affiliate links work.
